when UK is defined as 'Urat Keting'....:)

..Been a week since the last time I ran my beautiful fingers on this keyboard, been a week since the last time I addressed UK as United Kingdom and today, as I set foot in my house, enter my bedroom, and as I listened to UAI over YouTube on my handphone, I decided that I should write something about UK that is not exactly the acronym for United Kingdom...

Everyone has heard about Satay UK @ Seksyen 7, Bangi by now. And by now, that restaurant isn't the most sought after venue for satay because we have this craze on Satay King. But surely, any patrons of the restaurant previously will remember the taste unless one is unlikely a satay fan or doesn't care what ever goes into their mouth, through the intestine, processed in the stomach and finally out by the 'I don't want to mention it here' way out...

So, Satay UK as it is..hey please, it's not as pictured above. Those are pictures of Satay House in the UK, the ambient atmosphere of fall and the cold wind makes it a fantastic time to enjoy satay in the UK. But hey, I'm going to write about Satay Urat Keting, so divert your brain to the humid, hot and sweaty Malaysia, to be exact, Seksyen 7 Bangi...

there are so many people blogging online about this Satay UK and despite a few bad comments, majority giving five thumbs up and praise the outlet. Bloggers are comparing Satay UK with the rest of Satay Kajang and mostly agreed on the fact that, the latter have been  shun out by first outlet. As for me, I am a BIG FAN of satay. I'm quite picky about where to savour my satay. My favourite has always been Restoran Satay Emas Kajang....

So, when my colleagues asked me out for satay night at the Satay UK, I took the opportunity to let my tastebuds do the verdict.

We reached the outlet at about 8pm sharp. I took the time to lay my eyes on the floor of the restaurant as we reached the premise. We waited for a few of other colleagues who called to join in. I browsed the menu and as I did, a few plates full with satay were delivered to the table next to ours. And the smell, wallaowei,..as the common malaysian will say "tak boleh tahan bau dia...! lapo terus!", to show how fragrant the smell of the satay. I ordered the oxtail soup (Sup Ekor) instead of satay. Reason why, my colleagues forward order of 100 satay and being a first time here, I wanted to be careful with my order. A few of us then ordered noodle soup, and fried rice, and the Sup Urat Keting. I shared my oxtail soup with a colleague and as we about to finish, one of us shove a plate of chicken satay to me. With nice thoughts, I took a bite and to my surprise, the taste was quite good. My bad impression was maybe mostly contributed to my reading of www.matjoe.com titled 'Ultra Kecewa' on his comments about this premise. He mentioned how dissappointed he was with the satay here. Maybe, he was at the premise at the wrong time. That's all I could say, as a verdict, because what I experienced was totally a different taste.

Chicken satay - with peanut sauce, the background was the oxtail soup

My happy colleagues enjoying the satay!

The meat was very tender and juicy. Yes, you can find burnt parts but still, why do you eat satay? You wanted to eat meat that is grilled! The size was quite a large chunks of meat. They have chicken, beef, venison and rabbit meat. But one thig agreed with Mat Joe is that - they are stingy about their peanut sauce and the onions and cucumber to go with it. We had to request a few times for the peanut sauce and to be frank, that spoils the mood of most of us enjoying the satay! Still, you have to cosider that this situation might be contributed by their experiences having to waste a bowl full of peaut sauce by patrons who likes to have their satay plain. And fret not, besides satay, this outlet also serves 'ala carte' such as oxtail soup, chicken soup, beef soup, 'sup tulang', 'sup urat keting', 'sup perut', many types of fried rice, fried noodles and tomyam.

Oxtail soup
For me, the satay was good. I cannot say it's great because my tastebuds define great as something that I cannot forget for a long period of time. It does not happen with this one. But still, I refute all the bad comments on satay UK. But I do accept the bad ones because we are human and it is the unique of us, of each of us, that makes a difference. Different people might say many things about the one same plate of food. So, cheer up and taste the food yourself when people comment on it. Sharing nice food with people can be part of your 'amal kebajikan' and good deeds for humankind. you can help people save money babe! hehehe..

So those who wants to pay a visit, might be interested to visit Restoran Sate UK, No.80 Jln 7/7A, Sek 7, Bandar Baru Bangi. Or login to facebook and like them at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Restoran-Sate-UK/331650773771

HAVE FUN SATAY'ING' !!! ;)

Refuting my "Null Hypothesis"....

...It's been hours dwelling on my scientific data that are not that scientific either. It's quite hard when you're working with fundamental science than the applied ones. To nullify something that cannot be seen with naked eyes such as the ability of some bacteria to exerts 'miracle potion' that enable them to be superior that the host they infected is not something enjoyable for some people but it is to me..

I've been prying on my data since last night, and suddenly my thought dazed to my visit to Nasi Ambeng stall last week in Tg.Karang. It's noon anyway. A normal fat person like me will undoubteddly smelling rice and loads of beuatiful dishes on the lunch table..I went downstairs, I made a pot of chicken tomyam which smells really nice (oo yeah oo yeah...). Then I get back to this lappie of  mine and decided to write on Nasi Ambeng instead of my going through a headache analysing my research data.

Entering the front yard of the owner's house which is also the compound of the restaurant

Have you heard of 'Nasi Ambeng Ibu' in Tg.Karang? I'm not an avid fan of nasi ambeng but I enjoy eating it whenever it's around me (muahaha). My parent is a regular to this Nasi Ambeng Ibu. They know the owner personally. So everytime they went back to their hometown, they will definitely pay a visit to this stall and bought for about 5-6 packets of Nasi Ambeng Ibu for home. We, the chidren were very grateful for such a wonderful parent that never forgets their children loves nasi ambeng....(??????...

Anyway, Nasi Ambeng Ibu has quite a good reputation among locals. It's a hotspot during weekends and will usually finish before 2pm although they open until late evening.

Tucked nicely in front of the owner's house, this restaurant is just a small hut. The roof was made of daun nipah with added zink at the back of the newly renovated part of the stall. Environment is airy enough because they don't construct any walls to block the dining area from outside view. Basically yes, for those concern for dust and all, it's an open environment restaurant. You can feel the heat when it's summer and you can see the snow falling down from sky when it's winter..( :D)..

Drink preparation area - Opah Kampung Style...
Small gazebos were built for customer who wants to enjoy a private moment with family members
Warung Ibu contact number

It was a quiet weekday when I reached there and there was a few people having lunch. Two families just arrived at the same time and they flocked to the small gazebo and prepared for their lunch while a few of the family members went to choose the lauk and nasi ambang. You can choose to sit inside the restaurant or enjoy your nasi ambang outside on the gazebo.

Swing available just front of the restaurant for children and even adults to enjoy

Food list goes on from the normal dish for Nasi Ambeng which is ..
Sambal tempe goreng with tofu and soohoon
Serunding kelapa, udang kering and groundnuts

the delicious Mee goreng (fried yellow noodle)

and of course, the mastermind of Nasi Ambang, jeng jeng jeng jeng.our most important lauk which is,

AYAM MASAK KICAP

Makcik ni punya ayam masak kicap sedap...But no worried to those who doesn't fancy Nasi Ambang. This restaurant also serves plain rice with other local dishes such as Asam Tumis Ikan Pari, Kailan Tumis, Kangkung Goreng, Pecal (the jawa traditional dish which consist of sengkuang, blanched vegetables which is kangkung, ladyfinger, kacang botol, beansprout, long beans eaten with peanut sauce), kerabu ulam raja and many others. For Nasi Ambang, you can opt for fried chicken if you don't prefer the soy sauce chicken style. Price were affordable and worth to go for. Nasi Ambeng cost you RM 7.00 per packet which you get a piece of chicken, 2 scoops of rice, generous amount of sambal tempe, serunding kelapa and mee goreng (fried noodle).

They provide clean washroom and surau for restaurant's patrons
The owner, which is known as "Kak Senah" by my mother, or is it "Kak Minah", i forgot..ooppsss, but it's definitely ikan puyu (Climbing Perch) there I can't be mistaken ..

So, if you happen to be nearby, or just passing through the road, alert for a big white banner 'NASI AMBENG IBU'..drop by and give them a try. It's worth every penny!

Young entreprenuer and their stories, ...

I just "pass through" Maria Elena's blog just now, I thought I saw she wrote something about people's dream came true. I didn't proceed my reading her blog, but yes the topic is very exciting and is trending at the moment. In fact, I'm going to a wedding of one of them tomorrow. Yes, it is, and yes I am invited to famous people's wedding, muahaha...

How are these young people create successful stories? They are so young, least said on their list of experience and yet, here they are, marking and stamping their names on billboards of Malaysian young & successful entreprenuer. I won't be that excited to talk about them if they came from rich and famous family such as the Naza; they owned the Tutti Frutti, Bubba Gump and etc etc the list goes on, well they do work hard to achieve what they have today huh..

anyway, last week, I drove to Tg.Karang. It has been a few months since the last time we've been to Tg.Karang. My mother need to run some errands there and as usual, I'm her official driver when it comes to running errand. I took the opportunity to actually try the famous everybody talking about's Cendol Bakar.....

It was already noon when I reached the place. Located in Ijok, you cannot miss them.

With a huge banner and a huge crowd, no one can miss this place. They have been in Ijok for a few years but I never wanted to stop to get their cendol before this. Because I have my favorite cendol stall in Sg.Buloh which I don't think this cendol bakar can beat. But reading so many blogs blogging about them, hearing so many friends talking about them made me wanted to try! I was giving up halfway looking at the long queue and judging from the number of people waiting to be seated, ...

when I suddenly saw this....----------->

WTH???? I must do this! So I told my mother "Mak, kita drive-thru je lah, ramai sgt orang! tak kuasa aa..". My mother pun " ha ye la, ...". And then the problem came, I cannot decide what I wanted. They have a short list of menu but still, I can't make up my mind like I wanted to order everything. Just like the "Jalan Jalan Cari Makan" tu, the host tried everything right..hahah.

Menu List

CENDOL VIP (cendol, jagung, nata de coco) RM2.00

CENDOL VVIP (semua di atas + pulut) RM2.50

CENDOL TAPAI (semua @ VIP + tapai ubi) RM2.50

CENDOL TAPAI PULUT (semua VVIP + TAPAI) RM3.00

CENDOL DURIAN (semua VIP + durian) RM3.00

CENDOL DURIAN TAPAI (durian + tapai) RM3.50

Murah kan kan kan kan? I consider those cheap since they claimed that they served using 'gula merah yang dibakar'...penat wooo membakar gula merah supaya tak hangus sangat! wakaka..

nampak tak banner kat atas tu? Can you read the banner content? Yes, the owner is a successful , young and pretty must be 24-years old lass from Seremban???? Seremban seems fishy to me..what the hell is she doing setting up her business in Ijok? Don't have anough guts to compete with SEREMBAN CENDOL TEPI JALAN kah??..Maybe it's part of the gimic too...hehehe. Anyway, salute to Cendol Bakar for doing their part of public responsibility - Orang Kurang Upaya & Fakir Miskin boleh makan cendol percuma!! Can you see the banner above? FREE cendol for disabled and poor families. Just show your OKU card and you are entitled to a free cendol. whether it's a 'a' or 'unlimited access' to the Cendol Bakar, I forgot to ask for more details! Was excited snapping the pictures ..hahaha..

Long queues can be seen during my visit there. Car's plate number from Johor, Penang and Kelantan also can be seen here. So they have big fans..,

And their cendol - I'm giving them 3.5/5.0. It's a bit too sweet for me. But I'm satisfied with the content of what's inside the 'poisonous ingredient' of the Cendol Bakar. Full with corns, cendol, Nata de Coco and the coconut milk were very fresh. It's fragrant and blended well with the gula merah. Whether it's true or not they 'bakar' the brown sugar, I cannot tell since the taste were just the same but less creamy than my favorite Sg.Buloh cendol. Overall, Cendol Bakar still cannot beat my favorite Sg.Buloh cendol but I gave thumbs up for them. Do visit them should you cross path with Ijok/Kuala Selangor/Jeram or driving that way. It's worth your RM2!!!!!!

Cold, damp days & nice Coffee

As I'm writing this, outside was raining. It has been a cold, damp and a flat few weeks. I felt like living in a seasonal country. It's November now, who knows I might greet snow by December....(walla!) hehehe.. Why,

with the cold, flat days these few weeks, I have been on a good terms with coffee. Be it a 3-in-1 or the self-brewed coffee. Sipping hot coffee seems the best thing that can cheer me up. I used to be a coffee-holic once and married to a coffee-holic adding up the spice and thrill of exploring and enjoying a good sip of coffee. To-date, I still cannot forget the taste of the hard, long black Tchibo coffee I had the privilege to taste the first time, ten years ago in Germany. Then I grew to love Davidoff and Jacobs ground coffee and Cafe Vitto. Unfortunately, I  found these brands are very expensive in Malaysia, considering I can get our local Kopi Kapal Api at RM3.75 for a 200g packing! and so I ditched those brands a few years after I left the heavenly Konstanz (am i sad to leave Germany? yes, I do...)

Ok, back to main topic-so last week, during one damp and cold afternoon, we decided to go out for a good coffee and one of us was like "nak aiskrim boleh?", ..WTH?? so, my brain was germinated with so many list of coffee outlet and yet one outlet in particular kept popping in and out of my eyes - McDonald!! Why yes, I haven't been to the newly launched McCafe! Jom gi McD!!!

McCafe legend on wall (taken from summerkid123.blogspot.com)

taken for connie-stillbelieve.blogspot.com - according to her blog this is Damansara's outlet. The exact same look and position of everything as in Subang Jaya.
You can have a look at their legend as above. This is not mine, was taken randomly over the internet Google image but I'm putting up the credit as mentioned to summerkid123.blogspot.com  ; all outlets legend look the same. As for me, the nearest is Subang Jaya SS14, just behind the Shell station. AS we reached the outlet, it was fully occupied with customers mainly students I guess from the nearby colleges because they have laptops and lecture notes were everywhere on the table. We sat down, thinking of what we are going to order. I decided that we should have a shot at the most basic coffee, Americano and a muffin to go with it, I gamble on Double Choc Chip muffin.

I was hampered emotionally (it's a very strong word u see..) by the muffin but my modd has been repaired by the delicious taste of the coffee so I decided to give it another try for a coffee that require more skill - LATTE and a HOT CHOCOLATE. All right, both taste good to me although no thumbs up since I think Starbuck brewed a better coffee (btw, I ditched Starbuck about 6 years ago..). and they make a better latte too.

My latte from McCafe

Hot Choc and long tall McFloat (yep, I got free color mug for this purchase!)

Nice mug!

So my conclusion, if you should need a good coffee out of desperation, do go to McCafe. They have good coffee but not that 10-star but still, it's good coffee with inviting environment and they provide free WiFi! Don't go for the muffin and the cheesecake, they are such a junior amateur and it's expensive and not worth a try. (McDonald-pls do consider my comment, do improve the recipe). I personally recommend their McFloat. I don't recommend their wraps - KFC sells better wrap and so does  Subway but no one can challenge their Quarter Pounder except abang Burger Bakar Kelana Jaya (do ask me for this abang Burger Bakar map if you want to try and don't know the place! hahaha)...

SO, HAVE YOU McCAFE TODAY?...;)
